AvaTrade is one of the most highly regulated online brokers. It is licensed to conduct investment and digital asset businesses by the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI), the Financial Services Commission (FSC) on the British Virgin Islands, ASIC in Australia, the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC), the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) and Financial Regulatory Services Authority (FRSA) in South Africa,  Financial Services Agency (FSA) and the Financial Futures Association (FFAJ) in Japan, Abu Dhabi Global Markets (ADGM), and the Israel Securities Authority.

AvaTrade is WebTrust compliant, also it follows KYC procedures, uses 256-bit SSL encryption and McAfee Secure to prevent credit card fraud and identity theft. All clients’ funds are kept segregated from AvaTrade business funds. The company has also adopted the latest ESMA regulations and MiFID II to improve investors’ protection. Moreover, AvaTrade provides negative balance protection on all markets, which means that clients cannot lose more than their deposits.

Although the company is globally regulated, customers still run the risk of losing money as the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) doesn't offer them any protection. Only European clients are subject to a deposit compensation scheme from Investor Compensation Company Ltd (ICCL).

Account Opening

Registering with AvaTrade is easy. To do that, just click on the ‘Register Now’ button on the broker’s homepage and fill out your full name, phone number, and email address. You can also sign up using your Facebook or Google. Also, before being able to open any trades, you must verify your account. For that, you need to provide proof of identity (a valid government-issued ID) and proof of address (utility bill).

You can fund your account with a credit or debit card, via wire transfer, or e-payments such as Skrill, WebMoney, and Neteller. Note that e-payments are not available to EU and Australian clients. The minimum deposit via wire transfer is $500 while credit card and e-payment allow depositing $100, or 100 units in the account base currency, which you set when choosing a trading platform.

Account Closing Process

To close your account on AvaTrade, you need to withdraw your money first, then send an email to your account manager or customer service with a request. 100% of your cash must be withdrawn via the same method that you made a deposit, and for the rest, other methods are available.
